The recovery of workers' purchasing power is one of the reasons for the positive image the Government continues to maintain among the majority of the electorate, as revealed by the AD's leadership in our monthly barometers. After the inflationary shock that surprised the younger generations, accustomed to the permanent stability of prices, incomes are gradually recovering, as shown by data from the National Institute of Statistics, which we reported on page 24. The projected increase in the minimum wage and the growth in average salaries, coupled with the reduction in unemployment, help to strengthen the disposable income of a significant part of the population. Now, it is increasingly clear that the Government believes in the multiplier effect of this optimism. With more money, there is more consumption, and this generates more optimism, and thus the economy grows. However, there are disruptive factors in this virtuous cycle. Thousands of Portuguese suffer from the increased cost of basic products, such as food, which limits the positive effects of rising incomes among those who actually register them, even if in a fragile and unequal way. Furthermore, other factors complicate the daily lives of families, such as prohibitive housing prices in large cities or energy costs. Optimism, for now, has short legs. But it's already clear that this will be the government's path to keep the economy growing.
